Adam Gillard

Adam Gillard 28 people have signed up, which means in all likelihood there are only 4 places left in this tournament! Once we have 32 entrants I'll run the draw (there's a button to do it on apterous now) and subsequent sign-ups will only get a place in the unlikely event that we reach 64 entrants before the deadline to complete Round 1, in which case I'll run a separate draw for the remaining 32 entrants and extend the deadline, or in the event that people withdraw from the tournament before or during Round 1.

These places will continue to be filled on a first-come, first-served basis (so the 33rd entrant would take a place if one person withdrew, the 34th entrant for a second withdrawal, etc.). Any withdrawals after Round 1 has been completed would simply result in a bye for the opponent of the person who withdrew. I'll announce the deadline for Round 1 after conducting the draw.

Adam Gillard ***IMPORTANT*** The deadline for completing Round 1 matches is Saturday 4 May 2013 at 23:59:59. Remember that each fixture in Round 1 is best of 3. If the deadline is looming and you haven't completed your fixture yet, I'll give you a gentle prod via aptomail. Happy Hypergoatdowning!

Adam Gillard I don't remember accepting a Greg Holloway into this tournament.

Adam Gillard Paul has had to withdraw, so Ciaran has been drafted in as first reserve and will face Ryan in Paul's stead.

Jon Stitcher Is there a draw for round 2 yet?

Adam Gillard

Adam Gillard No, I don't know yet how it works in the new tournament system as to whether I can conduct another random draw within apterous for Round 2. It'd probably be best to do it externally (random.org) with two outstanding fixtures currently. Bob and Dave have both made efforts to arrange a time and Ciaran was drafted in late on to replace Paul, so I'm giving those matches a bit of leeway.

However, with most of the matches completed I may as well get Round 2 up and running! I'll do the draw using random.org and enter the fixtures individually.

Notes from the organizer: ***NOTE*** - The 'Start date' and 'End date' listed do not necessarily reflect the span and final deadline of Round 1 of the Hypergoatourney, they're merely placeholder dates for the time being so that I can get the tournament up and running. I will announce the actual deadline in due course in a comment on this tournament page.

So, the nicing http://www.apterous.org/ticket_view.php?ticket=1525 has been done and Hypergoatdown http://www.apterous.org/viewformat.php?format=15&section=1 emerged victorious with 9 votes! Thanks to everyone who voted and commented on the format for this tournament; I hope it can be as successful as the tournament I ran last year based on a popular vote! http://www.apterous.org/to_meta.php?meta=14

The tournament will be a straight knock-out, with the number of matches increasing as the rounds progress (probably R32 and R16 best of 3, QF best of 5, SF best of 7, F best of 9). Sign-ups will be accepted in powers of 2, with pending sign-ups as standby entrants until the next figure is reached (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 etc.). In reality, this probably means that the *first 32 entrants* will be guaranteed a place in the tournament, with subsequent entrants as standbys. Depending on how the sign-ups progress, I'd like the tournament to begin some time in mid- to late April, hopefully finishing by the end of May or early June. I'm planning on a time frame along these lines (based on 32 entrants):
R32 - 16 days to complete matches
R16 - 12 days to complete matches
QF - 10 days to complete matches
SF / F - no prescribed time limit to complete matches

***No-shows*** - If a match is not completed within the allotted time period for a given round, it will be adjudicated at the discretion of the tournament director (me). There will be some flexibility in the dates, especially in the final stages of the tournament, but there should be plenty of time to complete matches. You may withdraw from the tournament at any time, should you so wish.

Sign-ups are now open on a first-come, first-served basis. If your sign-up is accepted, that means you are guaranteed a place in the tournament. If your sign-up is pending, that means you are on the standby list for the time being.

PS - If you haven't tried Hypergoatdown before, give it a whirl. It's great fun!
