Roll up, roll up, and take your chances... The Mole is back, and it’s lucky number seven...
First of all, those who know the normal cycle may think this is a little early for the announcement – and they’d be exactly right, but it’s for good reason. Mole 7 won’t start until January, but it will only start if the interest levels are strong. A lot of people have left the site, and I need to know we’ve got a good level of players to replace them before I’ll go ahead. People have until 1st December to sign up. Sign-ups are only open to full members of the site, and I will not accept any sign-up from someone who’ll “subscribe later”.
Now the facts. Mole 7 (presuming enough interest) will begin on Tuesday January 3rd. Barring scheduling changes it will finish on Saturday March 18th. There will be a Tuesday task and a Saturday task between those dates, barring breaks for Co-Events. Tasks will be split into game weeks. You will, as previously, be required to make one of the two tasks in each game week. Every player has one free game week off – any player missing more tasks than that will find their lives within the game being made more difficult.
Some of you will have played The Mole before. Some of you will have avoided it before. But some of you will be wondering what the hell I’m talking about. For those people, I offer this. The Mole features a team of players competing to build up a prize pot, that only one of them can win. Within this team, exists a saboteur. A player attempting to ruin your efforts to succeed. Identify who they are successfully, and you have a good chance of winning. But be very careful. Because every player has their own agenda and no-one will be what they seem. And this is helped by every single player being given a brand new account. They, and you, will be asked to concoct a brand new identity – everything but the name will be down to you. Do you want to be one of the good guys? Or is your sole intention to look out for number one. It’s entirely your choice.
Every time you turn up, you’ll be faced with a creatively concocted challenge. These will test your teamwork, skill, logic, memory and many other things beside. The Mole is open to absolutely anyone (except the one person barred from entering), and can be won by absolutely anyone, because how good you are at Countdown is ultimately, totally irrelevant.
Instead, every week, you’ll be faced with a multiple-choice 5 question quiz, about the identity of The Mole. Score highly, either by knowing who The Mole is, or covering your bets in an intelligent way, and you’ll stay in the process. But fail, and you’ll be eliminated from the game.
You can collect through a mixture of luck, judgement, and skill, items that can help you along the way. Immunities will stop you being able to be removed from that round. Freebies will allow you to boost your quiz scores. And there might even be a new twist or two that even the old timers won’t recognise.
One thing you should know however, is that the game is inherently unfair. It is cruel, it is sadistic, and the carpet can be pulled from under your feet at any moment. We don’t care about your whining, your complaining, or your crying – in fact, I’m probably sitting here laughing at your misfortune. Never try and second-guess what might be coming next.
If this sounds like your idea of fun, message me by PM on here, or on Facebook and say that you’d like to play. Do NOT tell anyone else you’ve applied. It is to your express disadvantage for anyone else to know that you’re playing the game. Please feel free to PM me any questions you might have. I won’t help you with anything tactical, but if you’d like some general clarity on anything, I’ll try and help as much as I can without giving an advantage.
I look forward to hearing from you...
