Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson How come there are a zillion games in this division, yet only 15 games per conference in each of the others?

Does this make Division 4 the hardest to be promoted from? Would it not make more sense to split this to make a 5th division?

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns It's only 2 extra games per player, and the same proportion (25%) will be promoted as in D2 and D3, so it's not too different really.

Wanted to try out something a bit different to previous seasons which puts some importance on almost every single game, and this seems to deliver that better than adding a 6th division

We'll see how it goes though, happy to change back to a traditional league in S7 if this is unpopular

Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson I've never been in it before, so can't compare...

...but on first glance, this massive 4th division seems like a bad idea. I am happy to be proved wrong on that. All the best with running it... I'd say it takes a huge time commitment.

Dave Kempshall

Dave Kempshall I think Div 4 is basically the same number of games as all divisions played last season isn't it Dave? 14 games per player? Doesn't seem to intense. I like the format of splitting mid-season, looking forward to seeing how it plays out :)

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns Ah if my time is your main concern then don't you worry - as an unemployed student in lockdown this'll be just fine :P

My efforts will be a bit lacklustre over the next week as I finish exams but after that it'll be plain sailing, I've run much more work intense tourneys in the past!

Rhys Benjamin

Rhys Benjamin Shouldn't your sheet refer to D4G and D4H rather than D41 and D42 in the tables sheet?

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns I think it's all correct Rhys - slightly confusing having the table from the conference stage (now) and the final stage (later) side by side though, I'll try and make it clearer.

Current tables are on the left :)

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns And yeah I guess people playing games on time may be a concern, I'll see how it goes but may add a week to both sections.

Long term (post lockdown) if this format continues it'll probably be a month for conference stage, then a month for final stage, so 2 month seasons like the old league was

Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson Not in the least. I would assume if someone undertakes to run a tourney they have the time to do it. I was just being friendly with that comment.

My main concern is that Division 4 looks too crowded, and if I were one of the weaker players in it, I would probably find it disheartening. But as stated earlier, this concern may be misplaced.

Stu Harkness

Stu Harkness Tbf, Div4's got an eighth of their games played already, and the one at the bottom looked a belter...

Stu Harkness

Stu Harkness As does the 4th one down!

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns Yeah true, but I guess no matter how I'd done it, the nature of the league format is that someone has to come last each season in each division. On the flip side, if you have a slightly disappointing season you very quickly get to have another go! And with the split league system, you get two chances!

The most important thing is that everyone gets a good number of tough but winnable and fun games against other word/number game lovers, and I think this format achieves that :)

Elizabeth Beer

Elizabeth Beer Is the deadline for this staying on 31st? Have been on loads recently, but either my opponents are not online, or we are passing ships.

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns I was hoping one more week would be enough, but I think there's only been one game played this weekend, so to confirm:

*Deadline for completing matches is now 7th February.*

Apologies to those who are already done/nearly done and will have to wait another week!

For the rest, it's worth aptomailing opponents soon to get games arranged - try to give at least 5 days notice (by 2nd Feb). If a game isn't played and more effort is made my one player to get it organised, I'll award the game.

Steven Oldham

Steven Oldham Apologies all, my laptop broke last weekend so I'll try to catch up now it's fixed.

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns One week left so do try to drop your remaining opponents a message to try and organise a game!

As the initial deadline is wrong, I'll be moving remaining games across to a new tourney page this weekend and removing these ones, they may remain in your challenge box for a few days but you only need to play one. If I seem to miss it, let me know!

MSR, Steven and Jake still have a fair few games to go - if Jake doesn't get any done I'll award all his games to opponents

Tourney round: AptoLeague: S6 Division 4

<< S6 Division 3 | S6 Premier League >>

Notes from the organizer: 16 players in D4 this time, split into 2 conferences. The top four in each conference will qualify for the top section in the second round, while the bottom four in each conference will drop to the bottom section.

In the final round (1st-14th February), everyone will retain two-thirds of their points and the top 3 of the top section will be promoted, while the top player in the lower section will also be promoted! [assuming format stays the same for Season 7]

Good luck!
