Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns One week left to complete S21 Aptoleague games.

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns a.k.a. James Hurrell o'clock! :D

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns D3... was messy, and will probably prompt a few minor rule changes for S22. There were 33 unplayed games, although 12 of those involved James so can be ignored as he played none. However there were 4 players who played 4-5 games (i.e. less than half)

Table as it was
1) Fiona 38pts 165PD
2) Harry 34pts 260PD
3) Adam 34pts 138PD
5) Andres 22pts 122PD

But if you expunge those 4 players...
1) Harry 22pts 126PD
2) Andres 22pts 122PD
3) Fiona 22pts 97PD
4) Adam 22pts 61PD

Ultimately I've decided the fairest solution is to promote Harry (up on both counts anyway!) and Fiona, by virtue of her playing (and beating) all 4 opponents - they weren't totally elusive as all played 4-5 games.

So congratulations both - I've given the D3 title to Harry on the above basis and because Fiona's won it 3 times already :P

Alan and Elwin are both relegated this time, hope we see them back in D3 soon.

Thanks all for playing! Aptoleague recently reached 3 years, with Fiona involved in

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns all seasons out of D3 players - ty!

Adam Dexter

Adam Dexter Was a tricky one for you to adjudicate. Just wish people would either commit to playing their games or leave the league altogether - leave it for those who want to play

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns I'm thinking of having some sort or rolling 2-3 season check where people have to stay above (say) 75% of games played or get removed (initially for a season). Gonna run some numbers to see what looks reasonable based on previous years :)

Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson Regardless of how many times she won before, shouldn't the title go to Fiona anyway.

I get that the rules were, perhaps, sub-par and need tweaking; but surely this season should be adjudicated based on the rules that were in place at the time, rather than on a hypothetical better set of criteria that have yet to be implemented?

Or is it better to just view you as benign dictator and go with whatever your flow is? 😎

Fiona T

Fiona T I'm happy with the benign dictator approach :D Once the less active players were removed, Harry finished above me on points difference so I've no problem with it. I was only top because I'd played one extra game.

Dave Robjohns

Dave Robjohns Yeah I snuck "at the organiser's discretion" into the rules a few seasons back because I realised I basically just do (or try to do) whatever feels "right"/fairest :p

Elwin Carlos

Elwin Carlos Hi all, thanks Dave for organising as always!

As one of the aforementioned underactive players, I can only apologise for not getting as many games played as I should have. I was logged in frequently over the last two weeks but admittedly made no attempt to contact anyone directly.

Arguably the person most affected by this is Andres, as he's the only one out of the top 5 that I didn't play, so apologies if that has denied him a promotion spot. But I suppose relegation is my just reward!

Hopefully I can bounce back and rejoin you for S23! :)

Andres S.

Andres S. How the fuck did I get 2nd after expunging, math be mental sometime.

Seriously though I do apologize also for not making an effort to finish my games. College has been a can of whoop ass and I'm glad I can stop thinking about that over this summer. Hope to get a good portion of games done next season.

Lee Simmonds

Lee Simmonds Hi, would just like to add my apologies for not getting the games played. I do log on when I can but invariably nobody else is in or already busy playing other games/tourneys. I do love being involved in the league and will endeavour to do better in future. Unfortunately, the time I have available to play is limited so I may bow out if I'm unable to meet playing requirements. Cheers all and Dave in particular for patience :)
