Fiona T

Fiona T hmm, definite advantage to going second here - you know what you need to win a hole. Maybe players could take it on trust not to look at their opponents game before playing their own?

Dave Kempshall

Dave Kempshall I had considered - once we reach the later stages - moving to human v human matches (early rounds v Prune was purely a tactic to get matches played promptly). On the flip-side, if someone who plays second falls behind early, they will be more minded to take risks to get back into it and that could unravel. Let's see, but if I recall it didn't really affect Martin's Ryder Cup tournament a few years ago.

Thomas Carey

Thomas Carey i guess the other option could be not revealing the draw until everyone has played, but yeah fair enough. switching to human v human makes it a very different game - i feel like the point of this format is that there's always going to be some holes you can't win (if the other person gets an 8 and my max is 7 etc) which makes it a bit more interesting imo. i simply won't look at my opponent's game :)

Dan Spinks

Dan Spinks while it is an advantage to go first it is not an unfair advantage as no one is made to go first or second. it is a level playing field, you can choose to play early and give up the advantage or you can hold your nerve and hope your oppo goes before you or you can just crack on and not worry about what they've done

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford Or maybe instead of holes 19/20 being the tiebreaker, whoever goes first would win in event of a tie

Tourney round: APGA Tour 2024: 11. World Matchplay: R32

<< 11. World Matchplay: Prelims | 11. World Matchplay: R16 >>

Notes from the organizer: The prelims are now done and we move into R32.

Matches, as always, will be played against Prune - this time in a Standard Letters Attack.

Your score will be compared to your drawn opponents score in the corresponding round and whoever scores higher will win that hole and score 1 point in the match. Tied rounds see each players get 1/2 point. The person with the most points after 18 rounds of the attack (18 holes of golf) will win the match. If a match is tied after 18 holes, then rounds 19 and 20 will act as play-off hole 1 and 2 respectively. If matches are still level, a replay across the same format is scheduled.

Deadline for R32 is 5th August.

R32 feeds into the R16 so I will schedule R16 once they become know.
