Adam Dexter

Adam Dexter Those impossible rounds are savage!

Tim Down

Tim Down I know this tournament can't be completely fair, but I think the variability in max scores from these games is might be taking it too far. I just played a practice game with a max of 123, while some games have a max in the 160s.

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell I suppose it's all part of it. Especially at this stage of the tournament. If you play well enough, you should be able to avoid the bottom three. I did not play well at all.

Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson Rounds like this make it a great tournament! You need skill AND luck to win WL... One of the top 5 could be unlucky enough to be bottom 3 this time around, and who doesn't love a good upset?!

Bring it on! 😈

Tim Down

Tim Down Yeah, fair enough, I suppose. I just don't like the idea that it's possible to play perfectly and still be eliminated.

Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson I get what you're saying, but I think all is good. The highest scoring weakest link in the past was 98pts... this year the threshold is gonna be closer to 80. A score of 123 would fare just fine.

Wesley Barton

Wesley Barton Aye Tim, the max in my game was 131 haha

Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson But Wesley, you picked 1L all the time, which the tactical equivalent of begging for a low available max...

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell My max was a decent 152 but 10 of the targets were in the 800s and 900s (6 in the 900s) which meant after the time taken to swear at the computer I had less solving time.

Wesley Barton

Wesley Barton That's fair, I don't know the octo number pickingn strategy

Adam Dexter

Adam Dexter @Wesley I mean Matthew did try and give you a clue in the explanation :D If you go 1L and it's 10, it's really limiting

Tim Down

Tim Down Max of 124. Made a few bad mistakes at the end, so I guess I deserve to be near the bottom, but still...

Eoin Jackson

Eoin Jackson Tim! Are you a clairvoyant?
It's like your original comment predicted your own doom!
Spooky.

Tis the season, I suppose... 🎃

Alan O'Sullivan

Alan O'Sullivan ****-ing Octorock! My brain hates this variant. Decided to play it right after a good practice game and nothing went to plan and i mis-clicked a couple. Oh well, thats the game I suppose. I have been knowcked out on octorock before. It's a variant my brain really doesn't like doing. I expect i will be TWL on this one.

Adam Latchford

Adam Latchford Comfortably through Tim, no need to have worried. Was thrilled to see a 147 max for me, it is a scary variant

Tourney round: Weakest Link Numbers Tournament - 2024: Round 11 - Octorock

<< Round 10 - Normal | Round 12 - Duckdown >>

Notes from the organizer: Round eleven will be in Octorock format played against Apterous Waldorf. Large numbers in this format are 10 and 20 and Waldorf likes to pick 1 large, which may well not be your favoured selection, and performs erratically. Bear in mind, there's every chance that you may get a round or two where it's impossible to score ... just bad luck I'm afraid.

Some stats for this round:
Expected competitors: 43
Weakest Links required: 3
Previous Octorock max games: 2 - Elliott Mellor (2020,2023)
Highest Octorock WL Score: 172 - Elliott Mellor (2021)
Highest scoring Weakest Link: 98 - Bradley Horrocks (2023)
Previous rounds vs. this bot: 2018 - Round 9 ( https://www.apterous.org/to_tourney.php?tourney=2123 ), 2021 - Round 9 ( https://www.apterous.org/to_tourney.php?tourney=3816 )
For more stats see spreadsheet linked below.

THREE lowest scoring Weakest Links will be leaving the tournament this round. If there is a tie for lowest scores then margin of victory/defeat will be taken into account amongst tied players followed, if necessary, by total score in the tournament so far (see notes by matches).
