![]() | Chris Hare Dear players,
|
![]() | Chris Hare ... or whether you'd like your games delivered in instalments (probably One-to-Six immediately and Seven-to-Twelve later), in which case you should like this comment. |
![]() | Sarah Binns Had a right laugh with this thus far. Done dreadfully in every single round as either I didn't read the rules properly or I didn't understand the many different (and new to me) variants. It's a good thing I don't mind coming last. |

![]() | Chris Hare Don't worry! There's a tradition of people doing surprisingly well despite not having read/understood the rules, so I'm sure you'll be fine. |
![]() | Chris Hare Results and scores should now be appearing in the spreadsheet. Enormous thanks to Trevor Potts, who volunteered to automate all that could be automated and saved me an awful lot of time and effort in the process, meaning that what's in the spreadsheet should always be (reasonably) up-to-date. I haven't yet incorporated the tie-break criteria, so please be aware that positions are subject to change.

![]() | Thomas Carey question - the rounds are all set to end on 1st, but you say 31st here - which is it? asking for myself x |
![]() | Chris Hare It's the 1st. (The tourney creation page auto-filled in January 2025, and I didn't feel like changing it twelve times and probably getting it wrong somewhere, so there's an extra day.) |
![]() | Chris Hare Also, someone applied to join this tourney just before the deadline, but Apterous refuses to tell me who, so if (a) that was you, or (b) you'd like to pretend that was you, Nice this comment and I'll set your games up as soon as I can. |
Notes from the organizer: Back by popular demand.
Are you hanging ’round the server looking glum?
Do you think the restaurant rule is really dumb?
Are you fed up with four big ones,
And not keen on six small?
I present a tourney that this year I’ve called
So, Hare it is, Merry Chris-mas
(I was reaching for a pun)
Sign-ups are open now,
If you’d like some festive fun.
In this tourney, I'll give you 12 games against bots to play over the festive season (roughly the last two weeks of December, beginning on the 16th and ending on the 31st). Each game will be judged according to criteria that I'll provide fully on the page for that round and tournament points awarded accordingly (7 for first, 5 for second, 4 for third, 3 for fourth, 2 for fifth and 1 for everyone else). There will also be an extra Bonus Point available in each round for any player who achieves a secondary objective, and these will be added to your total tournament score. The winner will be the person who accrues the most points across all the rounds.
The games will be as follows:
1) Touchdown LA: only words beginning with the same letter score
2) Junior NA: most different numbers wins
3) Instant CA: alphabetical answers only
4) Touchdown Jnr LA: best 20-word poem wins
5) Hyperlock LA: highest score wins, score more for more locked consonants
6) Omelette LA: Ks score
7) Standard 15: beat Nude as unconvincingly as you can
8) Lockdown CA: guess the superfluous letter
9) Standard NA: be x-away (for certain values of x)
10) Dutch LA: most English game wins
11) Unlimited LA: only palindromes score
12) Hypergoat LA: best Chris-mas list wins
Further details (including tie-break criteria) will be given on the individual round pages, which will be added over the next couple of days. There is also a (currently very empty) spreadsheet, which you can view here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ihS3JL1pa50yoy-U7fJ55vhry0rynVbOsW6Z_lWgNdM/edit?usp=sharing
There won't be any penalty for unplayed games, but please try to play each individual game in one sitting to avoid spurious accusations of skulduggery.
If this sort of tomfoolery sounds appealing, feel free to sign up below. Sign-ups will be left open throughout the tourney, so you can jump in at any time before New Year's Eve. The winner will be announced as soon as I've done the admin.
Ho-ho-ho.
