Michael Cullen I'll be away for the first few days when this begins, just to let you know.
Zarte Siempre No worries Michael :)
Kieran Bray I think we could get 8 more people interested in this with a bit of advertising :)
Zarte Siempre It's possible :)
Zarte Siempre Well Chris makes 1, find me another 7 and I'll accept them all :P
Zarte Siempre a week to find another 5 people!
Michael Cullen Bad idea having Rhys in this, :P
Kieran Bray Where's Kerry when you need her?!
Zarte Siempre 4 to go :) | |
Zarte Siempre 3 to go! :P
Zarte Siempre 2 to go! :D
Zarte Siempre 1! :P | |
Zarte Siempre Huzzah! | |
Kieran Bray Good work! | |
Zarte Siempre I'll still keep this open, 8 more people WOULD be welcome - but it seems unlikely.
Michael Cullen Have you advertised it in main chat?
Thomas Carey How many people per group get through?
| |
Zarte Siempre Michael - several times
| |
Zarte Siempre Need another 7 again for Bob to be able to compete!
Kieran Bray you'll need to beg people...
Chris Hare I don't quite understand the rabid obsession with obtaining a multiple of eight.
Ian Volante Aye, bottom group or two with an even split of the remainder would work fine I reckon.
Eoin Jackson Not looking good for 56...!
| |
Zarte Siempre Because when the next rotation comes, how would you decide whether someone who came bottom in a group of 7 deserves to be in ahead or behind someone who came 7th in a group of 8. I specifically said I'd accept in multiples of 8, so people were warned :)
Eoin Jackson Halfway there now :))
| |
Ian Volante I just assumed the leagues would be linear, so bottom of 7 would be relegated whatever.
Zarte Siempre They will do in the following installment, this is to decide peoples starting leagues.
Ian Volante ah right | |
Eoin Jackson Can we find 2 more perchance?
Kieran Bray maybe delay it slightly until 2 more sign up? If we're still short by monday, that is.
Zarte Siempre I'm holding on for 2 more til tonight :)
Zarte Siempre Wahey! We're there :)
Zarte Siempre Group 1
| |
Zarte Siempre To see your league standings going www.challonge.com/aptotude with your group number on the end.
| |
Paul Smith Were these initial groupings random or seeded?
Zarte Siempre random Paul
Paul Smith Cheers, just nice to have some idea going in of how badly I'm going to do :)
Eoin Jackson hmm, my game against Chris Hare is not listed...
Zarte Siempre I'll fix that now
Jack Worsley The links to the league standings aren't working for me, Zarte. Anyone else having the same problem?
Marcus Hares It's www.challonge.com/aptotude1 for group 1, www.challonge.com/aptotude2 for group 2 etc etc..
Marcus Hares Ok links don't seem to work for external websites - hover over the link and remove the "apterous" bit
Jack Worsley Cheers, Marcus.
Rhys Benjamin Oh my, this really messes up my resolution settings! I did not expect the page to be THIS big. In addition, I've only got one game as C1. Hmmm....
Adam Gillard The tourney system just lists games alphabetically, Rhys. That doesn't have any bearing on whether you're C1 or C2 in each game.
Rhys Benjamin Ah, right.
Rhys Benjamin I should warn you I'm in Sussex from 17 Aug for a week, but we have until October... no rush.
Zarte Siempre No sweat.
Jen Steadman Just wondering - if everyone played their games before the end of August or something, would you sort out the next round earlier than announced?
Zarte Siempre I would, yes. it won't happen, but I would.
Mark D That's not really fair to guys like, say, me, who are about to disappear for a month. If the deadline for round two is moved up, I might miss is through know fault of my own.
Zarte Siempre It won't be moved up unless EVERYONE has played Mark, dw :P I just said that :P
Paul Smith Mark means if you start the 2nd round early, but it still last 10 weeks, you'll also finish it early, which would be bad for him.
Zarte Siempre Oh I seeeeee, yeah, obviously I'd adjust for that :)
Jordan F Side comment: For whatever reason, it looks like Elliot Bowker was put in as having 3 games with James Nguyen. I presume this is a mistake.
Zarte Siempre Jordan - Group 7 keeps going a bit funny, no idea why. Thanks for pointing that out.
Zarte Siempre Jordan - Group 7 keeps going a bit funny, no idea why. Thanks for pointing that out.
Zarte Siempre Jordan - Group 7 keeps going a bit funny, no idea why. Thanks for pointing that out.
Ian Volante Do you think group 7 keeps going a bit funny?
Zarte Siempre ...why did that post 3 times over an hour and 9 minutes....
Kevin Stoba Zarte, I'm not sure if you've noticed it already, but: in Group 3, you've recorded Ian and Eoin's 85-97 game as a victory for Ian, when it was really a victory for Eoin.
Zarte Siempre Fixed. That's twice I've done that today >_<
Ian Volante Kevin, it's a defeat for me in my screen, and I believe this system is automated.
Kevin Stoba I meant on the Challonge website, Ian.
Ian Volante Oh right, I didn't know it was being recorded there too.
Eoin M Thanks Kevin! | |
Martin Long Quick question Zarte. In the groups, is it the person with the most wins who finishes top or the person with the most points? Thanks in advance.
Zarte Siempre Most wins Martin, points are the tiebreaker :)
Charlie Reams Zarte: the repost happens when you refresh the page after posting. You browser probably warns you that this might do something bad.
| |
Zarte Siempre Oh was THAT what it was warning me of. I thought it was just my browser being stroppy with me (total technophobe, sorry)
| |
Zarte Siempre Group 1 - http://challonge.com/aptotude1
| |
Zarte Siempre Mark Deeks is confirmed as the first person who will DEFINITELY be in division 1.
Julian Joss Hi guys sorry i have been offline for a few days is there anything i need to do?
| |
Zarte Siempre Play your games? :P
Mark D I'm not gonna be here again until September 20th.
Zarte Siempre That's cool Mark, won't have started next cycle by then :)
Ian Volante So, with one win and an average of about 84, am I going to be the terror of division 7?
Paul Smith I'm steadily getting through these - 4 to go. How much longer do I have left?
Marcus Hares It started on 6th August and runs for 10 weeks, so I make it that the next round starts on 15th October so there's still just over 6 weeks left to finish
Chris Butler Is it time to start emailing the people I've not played yet? Not seen Chris Enado or Bob De Caux on here since this started
Julie McCarthy Maybe the US contingent should at least give us warning on here of some sensible BST times they'll be on, so we've got a chance of playing them.
Martin Long I've sent an e-mail out to Julian Joss to try to get our game completed.
Zarte Siempre Good stuff Martin :)
Julie McCarthy Can we schedule our game soon, Steve? I'll be off on holiday in a few days, so I'd rather get it done before Tues/Weds.
Steve Balog I can play tomorrow if you are going to be on.
Julie McCarthy Yes, about 9pm OK for you? That's 3 hours before new duel as you're in a different time zone!
Steve Balog Yea, barring any outstanding events I can play then.
James Hall Reckon we can get just one more person signed up to this?
Charlie Reams If you ask in chat you can probably find some nice person who'll make you up to 8.
Jordan F I can't speak for Zarte so I'm not 100% sure, however it might be tricky for another group of 8 to be formed and give them their own 10 weeks. Again, it's entirely possible Zarte could, but I think it'd be challenging.
James Hall Well I'm sure with 6 weeks most of us could manage 7 games...
Zarte Siempre James - the plan is to set up a new one of these after this one finishes. People will have the opportunity to join in late and form a bottom division, and fight their way up. It also means I can know how many people are going to be needed as some may wish to leave as well as join.
S J Hope it's not too late to enter
| |
Zarte Siempre We have our first completed group. Congrats to Eoin Monaghan who is the champ of group 3!
Ian Volante I'm still unsure that basing league positions on wins alone is the best system after I outscored John even though he won three more games. I suppose that's the punishment I get, having to work up from the bottom!
Zarte Siempre Doubt you'd be saying that if it was the other way around :P
Matthew Tassier Of course it should be done on games won. And I would gain more than Ian if it were done on points scored. Also I'd prefer points difference as a 2nd decider instead of points scored, but that's no big deal.
Zarte Siempre Matthew, if challonge gave me that option I'd be open-minded about a discussion on that one, but I have to work with what I've got! lol
Matthew Tassier Cool, that makes sense then. Looking forward to the first group stages.
Ian Volante It is fair, just slightly galling :)
Chris Hare I sent Eoin Jackson an apto-mail a while back; I've received no response so far.
Zarte Siempre Chris - you've been playing your games - I trust you're the less to blame participant.
Eskay Raman Zarte, can you give Chris a default win over me? It is quite tough for us to find a time which is suitable for both of us as I am from Australia and I don't see him on apterous very often.
Zarte Siempre Eskay - if you haven't played it before the deadline then I can certainly do that.
| |
Eskay Raman Thanks Zarte
Adam Dexter Yay I won one :D:D:D
Kieran Bray group 5 now complete :) sorry for the delay, guys!!
Kieran Bray Out of interest Zarte, how is this going to work? Will the people who are deemed to have made the least effort to get games completed be kicked out straight off? Or is there some kind of system?
| |
Zarte Siempre Kieran - The players deemed to have made the most effort will be awarded the win, and their score will be given as the average score of their WINNING games. All players will be put into new groups - the only time I will take anyone out is if they a) ask or b) complete NONE of the games in any rotation.
Zarte Siempre Also congratulations to Mark Deeks - winner of group 5.
Rhys Benjamin Haven't had a sensible email from Barry French and Joseph Krol said he'd be available but wasn't.
Zarte Siempre You and Barry is going to be a tough one to decide, but you're fine for a win against Joseph if he hasn't played you by tomorrow night.
Rhys Benjamin I will email you Barry's response; it's too obscene to print here.
Zarte Siempre Not really obscene Rhys....
| |
Ryan Taylor I emailed James Bradley at the start of the week but he hasn't replied. He was last on apterous a week ago today.
Zarte Siempre Ryan, he's missed 3 games, I think I can safely say you're fine for a win :P I'm only sorry that it might harm your overall points.
Eoin M Official request for Barry's response
Dan McColm "Why cant you just tell me??? I have a lot going on right now. Just have the win if you really want it I cant be bothered all this pissing around for nothing."
Thomas Carey Points from unplayed games use the average if you points potter played game, no?
Thomas Carey Of your points per played game*
Zarte Siempre It uses the average points of your WINNING games. If you haven't won a game, it's the highest losing score.
Julie McCarthy Steve Balog told me in the middle of our last game (which he insisted on finishing and won) that his grandfather had recently died. Might be why he's not been around much.
Zarte Siempre I will be awarding him the win against James, Julie - but I can't really punish Ed for that. My condolences to Steve if that is the case though.
Julie McCarthy sounds fair, Zarte, unless he contacts you himself with plans to finish
Zarte Siempre Well he only has 7 hours to do so :P
| |
Marcus Hares Considering the vast majority of matches were completed well within the 10 weeks, do you envisage shortening the length of the next cycle or leave it as is?
Show all comments | |
Zarte Siempre Having held a poll of a few people in chat, it has been agreed that the next rotation will be shortened to 6 weeks.
Kieran Bray Considering there are 10 people who would like to take part, will you be considering adding another division on the end in which they could compete?
| |
Zarte Siempre Yes, there's at least 1 more that I know of that HAD applied. I'll explain to them all that they'll have to start from the bottom, and if they're happy with that, then they'll be very welcome.
Zarte Siempre Apto-tude leagues are now CLOSED!
Jack Worsley Zarte, has the tiebreaker between two people on identical points changed from most overall points to head to head? I'm sure you said it was the former but the group 1 table puts Ryan ahead of me despite having fewer points, presumably because he won the game between us. |
Notes from the organizer: Players will be split into groups of 8 (to the nearest 8, first come first served, so if there's 33, apologies to the final person)
They will then have roughly 10 weeks to play the other 7 players in their group, this will decide formalised rankings for the first divisional group stages, this will begin roughly 2 weeks after the conclusion and last for ANOTHER 10 weeks. This will continue with promotions and relegations, however for now, just let me know if you wish to be involved in the grading system :)
Ran from: 6 August – 21 October 2012. Format: Old 15. Matches: One-off. Approved.
Fixtures: 196. Completed: 183.
Key. Green: winner. Red: loser. Grey: tie. (Stripes: provisional, match in progress.)
