Type a word into Lexplorer and you'll get back more information on it than you could ever have hoped for. Each section can be opened and closed individually with the show/hide links:

• The first line of information (not marked but known as Word Check) will let you know if a word is valid to be used in the apterous game. You'll also get relevant links to Google, Wikipedia, and Dictionary.com. This is the only part of Lexplorer available to members who have not signed up to apterous+.
• Related Words lets you know other similar valid words.
• Word Search will show you instances of this word appearing in apterous games. Info includes date of game, players, variant, round number, and selection.
• Conundrum Search will tell you if the word has appeared as a conundrum solution. Info includes date of game, solving player, round number, the shuffle, and the buzz time.
• The Stemmer shows you how the addition of other letters could turn your word into something better. For example, for the word PAINTED, you can see that, amongst other stems, PAINTED+C = PEDANTIC. Memorising some of these common stems is one of the best ways to improve your ability and technique.
• Anagrams Search will inform you of any valid anagrams that can be formed from your word - for example, a search for ORGANISED will return GRANDIOSE and ORGANDIES.
• Prefix Search returns words where your chosen word is a prefix. For example, TOWN will return TOWNSHIPS, TOWNHOUSES, TOWNSFOLK, and so on.
• Suffix Search returns words where your chosen word is a suffix. For example, TOWN will return DOWNTOWN, HOMETOWN, MIDTOWN, and so on.

You can also find a word using the dynamic Lexplorer search in the top-right corner of every page on the apterous website (when you are logged in).

As you type, an interactive list of results will appear, and narrow itself down as you keep typing. Just click on (or use up/down/enter on your keyboard to choose) any entry in the results list to go straight to the Lexplorer page for that . Pressing the Go button will search for words in the normal way, as per normal Lexplorer function.
