Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier Of course, this round will finish in 2020 not in 2021. I know Tom sometimes likes to leave it late, but ...

Edward Ashcroft

Edward Ashcroft Have hardly done any practice warm up rounds throughout the tournament. Decided to have a few warm up games for this one, and then I only score in 4 of the first 10 rounds of the one that counts! Had to do a warm down game out of frustration!

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier Unlucky. It can be a brutal format when things start going wrong.

Thomas Carey

Thomas Carey I had a fantastic start to this round but then I must confess it looks like I took my foot off the bara brith a little bit in the middle. I recovered decently but for a little while but unbeknownst to myself I had already lost to the child from Oldham who was on firing form. Thank you for your hosting Matthew it was great fun as ever :)

Elliott Mellor

Elliott Mellor Means the earth to me to win this. This has been a tournament that I’ve always had enormous fun in, and it was genuinely heartbreaking last year when I looked poised to win but got enormously screwed over by Caesar. It’s especially poignant because this was going to be my last go at it while I still had the company of my cat Fidget, who was diagnosed with incurable cancer last month. I wasn’t sure whether I’d be able to go all the way what with the stress this news caused me, but I promised myself I’d give it my best shot for her. I know it might seem a bit odd to dedicate an online tournament win to a pet, but I’d like to dedicate this to her – love you much Fidget <3

Thanks for hosting as always Matthew, and well done to the very worthy finalists Tom and Edward.

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier And that's a wrap! 3rd place this year, reaching his first final and compiling a huge total points score, it's Edward. 2nd place is the mercurial master of brinkmanship, 2017 champion Tom. A big thank you to those two and everyone else who took part this year.

Matthew Tassier

Matthew Tassier But, it's congratulations to Elliott. 190 here is a new highest WL hypernasty score and 4313 total tournament points smashes the previous best. Having got closer and closer over the last 3 years, 2020 has a worthy champion, showing great fortitude to perform as he did given current circumstances. Elliott, you are this year's Strongest Link. Goodbye! *disturbing wink*

Edward Ashcroft

Edward Ashcroft Thanks for organising Matthew, I really enjoy this tournement! Congratulations Elloitt, very well done on the win and your massive overall points total!

Chris Butler

Chris Butler Congrats Elliott, about time you got your name on this trophy. Well played also to Tom and Edward for getting this far. See you all in the comp next year hopefully :)

Tim Down

Tim Down Congratulations, Elliott, you were excellent throughout, particularly since the standard seemed particularly high this year.

Gevin Chapwell

Gevin Chapwell I can only echo the congratulations to Elliott. Great performance throughout. And Tom and Edward too. Tom managed to sneak through on quite a low points total, saving his best for the end!

Elliott Mellor

Elliott Mellor Thanks all <3

Tourney round: Weakest Link Numbers Tournament 2020: Round 24 - Hypernasty

<< Round 23 - Spoilage

Notes from the organizer: Finally we reach the twenty-fourth and final round which will be played this year in Hyper Nasty format against Apterous Rex. The large numbers range from the useless to the unwieldy providing a real test of calculation and focus. Rex will choose 4 large numbers which gives you plenty of options and plenty of blind alleys. Rex will obviously play a perfect game.

Let's check out the contenders:
Elliott Mellor - Cumulative Points 4123, 3 * Strongest Link, 6 max games, narrowest escape 11 points (R22), Hypernasty PB 200, 2019 runner-up.
Edward Ashcroft - Cumulative Points 4025, 3 * Strongest Link, 7 max games, narrowest escape 1 point (R22), Hypernasty PB 200, 2019 8th place.
Thomas Carey - Cumulative Points 3774, 0 * Strongest Link, 3 max games, narrowest escape 0 points (R19), Hypernasty PB 157, 2017 champion.

So, it's looking pretty neck-and-neck between Elliott and Edward with Tom probably the outsider of the three. But bear in mind that Tom is the only former champion left and came into the last round in 2017 with similar underdog status.

The highest scoring player in this round will be declared the 2020 champion. If there is a tie then margin of victory/defeat will be taken into account amongst tied players followed, if necessary, by total cumulative score in the tournament (see notes by matches).
