Dave Robjohns I’m pretty sure Florence’s narrowest escape is a record save for possibly Callum in 2016. Pretty incredible to remain safely more than a whole round ahead of the danger zone the whole way through!
Matthew Tassier Yes, nice detective work, no-one has remained that safe through the tournament since Callum (narrowest escape 16 points) in the original 2016 tournament.
Matthew Tassier Repeating last year's successful strategy, Edward's gone early and strongly. Nice score!
Martin Long Good luck to all the finalists. 4L Nasty numbers is such a fun format to play.
Chris Butler Good luck to all 3!
Elliott Mellor All came down to the last round, which I couldn't see despite it probably being the easiest of the lot. Well played Edward, many congratulations!
Tal Lessner Well done all finalists, thanks Matthew for the tourney, and mega congrats to John.
| |
Matthew Tassier And it's all over for another year. Finishing 3rd in her first final with a points total that only 3 other players have ever bettered it's Florence. In second place, falling just one round short of the 14 consecutive solves he needed at the end of his game to grab the crown, is Elliott. Really well played all tournament to both, and a big thank you to everyone else who joined in the fun this year.
Matthew Tassier But, with an excellent score in a very tricky challenge Edward shows his ability to pull a great game out of the bag when it matters and he retains the (virtual) trophy he raised last year. Congratulations Edward, you are this year's Strongest Link. GOODBYE! *disturbing wink*
Edward Ashcroft Thanks for organising Matthew, I really enjoy this tourney!
| |
Chris Butler Congratulations Edward, you're done a Horrocks!

Martin Long Well done to the finalists and for Edward for winning the tournament.
Elizabeth Beer Congrats Edward! Brilliant performance! And I think it takes a bit more than luck to win this two years in a row…
Eoin Jackson That's crazy talk Elizabeth, of course it's mostly luck!
| |
Gevin Chapwell Well done all. Great tournament.
Gevin Chapwell Now we just need to get Edward to start coming to CO:events so he can do the pre-event parkruns and compete for the CO:parkrun championship! |
Notes from the organizer: It's time for the FINAL round! The three survivors of 23 rounds of numbers combat will take on Rex in a Nasty numbers attack. Large numbers are changed to 12, 37, 62 and 87 and with Rex making his favourite 4 large selection you'll have a tricky challenge to get your head around.
Let's check out the contenders:
Elliott Mellor - Cumulative points 4076, 5 times Strongest Link, 6 max games, narrowest escape 10 points (R22), Nasty PB 200, 3rd final appearance, 2020 Champion
Florence C-L - Cumulative points 3989, 3 times Strongest Link, 3 max games, narrowest escape 12 points (R23), Nasty PB 191, 1st final appearance, 11th place 2021
Edward Ashcroft - Cumulative points 3794, 0 times Strongest Link, 5 max games, narrowest escape 4 points (R23), Nasty PB 200, 3rd final appearance, 2021 Champion
So, will it be top scorer Elliott, reigning champ Edward or the newcomer to the final 3, Florence. Too tight to call I'd say.
The highest scoring player in this round will be declared the 2022 champion. If there is a tie then margin of defeat will be taken into account amongst tied players followed, if necessary, by total cumulative score in the tournament (see notes by matches).
